Full Green Accreditation distinguishes organizations that implement green building and operational best practices, build the capacity of staff, effectively track and measure building performance, realize significant improvements in health and energy efficiency and achieve cost savings. The Sustainable Performance Institute commended The Housing Company in particular for its strong construction and rehabilitation practices.

“This accreditation reflects our commitment to sustainable practices in all aspects of our operations as we work to create stronger, healthier Idaho communities,” said Douglas Peterson, director of The Housing Company. “We don’t just talk about being green, we practice it every day — from the way we’ve implemented sustainable practices at the approximately 30 Idaho properties we manage to how we design and build new properties.”

Green Organizational Accreditation is part of HUD’s Affordable Green Initiative, a pilot program launched in 2012 to support affordable housing organizations. The goal of the initiative is to enable organizations to institutionalize sustainability and achieve higher levels of performance in the management of their housing portfolios.

The Housing Company is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing rental housing options for individuals, families and those with special needs. Its mission is to help residents achieve individual and family goals and foster community pride by providing and managing apartment communities that offer affordable rents and desirable living conditions.
