Critical local, state and national housing issues to be discussed at the 2009 Idaho Conference on Housing on Oct. 19-20
October 14, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The state of housing – both across the nation and in Idaho – will be discussed by experts, local leaders and housing industry professionals at the 2009 Idaho Conference on Housing. This conference, to be held Oct. 19-20 at the Doubletree Hotel Boise-Riverside, features national speakers who will bring the topic of housing full circle – from the national perspective to a look at the challenges faced by Idaho’s housing market. Local speakers will also contribute expertise from their communities. More than 350 people are already registered, and there is still time to take part in the conference. Attendees can register online at www.2009housingconf.com. Registration is $125 per person for nonprofit attendees and $175 for all others.
Several local leaders will discuss trends and key issues across Idaho, including housing, labor, health care, and economic concerns facing Idahoans. Panelists include Economic Development Manager of the Department of Commerce Randy Shroll, Chief Research Officer at the Idaho Department of Labor Bob Uhlenkott, Chief Economist for the State of Idaho Mike Ferguson, and Former CEO of Primary Health Elwood Kleaver.
An ever-present topic in Idaho, area mayors will weigh in on the link between housing, transportation, and economic development. Treasure Valley and eastern Idaho leaders will share their perspectives on what strategies communities can undertake to create a system that will better serve Idahoans. Eagle Mayor Phil Bandy, Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd, Nampa Councilwoman Pam White and Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman will each discuss the successes and challenges they’ve faced in their communities.
Conference participants will have the opportunity to hear about the local and national housing market from Lawrence Yun, chief economist and senior vice president at the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. Recently listed by USA Today as one of the top 10 economic forecasters in the country, Dr Yun has been with NAR since 2000. Prior to that, he worked as an economic consultant to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Education.
Experienced panelists will also discuss another timely topic, Dealing with Crime and Drugs in Your Community. First Lady Lori Otter, a member of the Idaho Meth Project Advisory Council, Megan Ronk, Executive Director of the Idaho Meth Project, and Dan Thorton, Major, Idaho State Police will discuss this important concern facing Idaho communities.
The 2009 Idaho Conference on Housing will also host panels on the housing crisis and statewide housing conditions, housing fraud, neighborhood stabilization, developments in rental housing services, leadership, and the secret language of advocacy.
