BOISE, ID – November 18, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Gerald M. Hunter, president and executive director of the Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA), was elected president of the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) at the Council’s recent annual meeting.

NCSHA is comprised of state housing organizations from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and over 300 affiliate member organizations nationwide. It is primarily an advocacy organization promoting legislative and regulatory issues within the housing industry. NCSHA also provides educational and technical support for its members.

In his role as president, Hunter will lead NCSHA’s efforts to address many of the critical policy issues affecting our housing markets today, including housing finance reform and the role of affordable housing initiatives in the industry’s changing environment. He has previously served as NCSHA’s national legislative whip and was recently appointed to FNMA’s national affordable housing advisory council.

“I am excited for this opportunity,” Hunter said. “There are numerous proposals on the table that may significantly change our nation’s housing finance and affordable housing policies. Being in a position to influence these policy outcomes in a way that’s positive for Idaho and our citizens is a real advantage.”

Hunter has served as IHFA’s president and executive director since 1998. During his tenure, IHFA has financed over $6 billion in asset-based loans including single-family homes, apartment buildings, nonprofit facilities, transportation infrastructure, and economic development projects. IHFA provides housing services and funding to fulfill a broad range of community needs – from homelessness to urban-based workforce housing. IHFA is a self-supporting corporation.
