SOUTHEASTERN IDAHO REGIONAL MANAGER NAMED TO LEAD DIVISION OF BUILDING SAFETY

BOISE (RealEstateRama) — Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced the appointment today of Chris Jensen, manager of the State Division of Building Safety’s Region 3, to succeed Kelly Pearce as the agency’s administrator.

Jensen has been the southeastern Idaho regional manager for ten years, supervising 36 employees. The lifelong Blackfoot resident assumes his new responsibilities immediately and will maintain a residence in the Boise area. Pearce retired at the end of 2016 after ten years leading the Division of Building Safety (DBS).

“Kelly has done a great job improving responsiveness and working with everyone in the building trades to ensure that the State’s regulatory emphasis is on educating and empowering rather than proscribing and punishing,” Governor Otter said. “Idaho’s rapid growth has stretched Building Safety’s resources pretty thin at times, but Chris inherits a crew that’s done yeoman’s work to keep construction both safe and on time.”

Jensen attended Idaho State University and owned Snake River Electrical Inc. from 1978 until joining the Division of Building Safety in 2007. He was a member of the Idaho State Electrical Board from 1999 until 2007, and a member of the Snake River School District Board from 1988 through 1996. Jensen continues to serve on the Caribou-Targhee Resource Advisory Committee and the Wearyrich Canal Co. board of directors.

He and his wife Stephanie have five married children and 16 grandchildren.

“I’m committed to the DBS mission of protecting the life, health and property of Idaho citizens through effective administration of all building safety laws, codes and standards, and I appreciate the Governor’s confidence in me,” Jensen said. “In this new role, I look forward to working closely with our regional managers and staff as well as continuing my association with State agencies, school districts, local jurisdictions, contractors, architects, engineers, and manufactured home and modular building manufacturers.”
