Crapo to Honor Idahoan Helping Homeless Vets; Note Teen Dating Violence Awareness Efforts

A Treasure Valley businesswoman who has helped homeless veterans and immigrants with critical housing needs will be presented the Spirit of Idaho Award by Idaho Senator Mike Crapo this Friday.  Joy Schweitzer, the daughter of a World War II veteran, has used her company, Around the Town, to find more than three-dozen homeless vets a place to live.  Crapo created the award to recognize Idahoans who go beyond the norm to help others.

Idaho Housing and Finance Association announces annual Point-In-Time (PIT) count of homeless

Idaho Housing and Finance Association is announcing the 2016 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count scheduled for today, Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Idaho Housing will collect and publish the data gathered by over 200 volunteers, with 50 organizations assisting in surveying communities across the state to document the sheltered and unsheltered homeless population and their needs.

Idaho Housing’s Home Partnership Foundation is awarding grant prizes totaling $145,000 to nonprofits in the Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge on Wednesday, January 20. Simpson Supports Congressional Review of EPA Water Grab

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson joined 253 Members of Congress in passing S.J.Res. 22, a resolution intended to stop the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from implementing the Obama Administration’s controversial Clean Water Rule. The rule, which was implemented in June 2015 in spite of widespread opposition among the public and in Congress, broadly expands the agencies’ jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act. S.J.Res. 22 would use the Congressional Review Act to prevent the rule from being enacted and bring the agencies’ actions back in line with congressional intent.
