More Idahoans can apply for this year’s Idaho Property Tax Reduction Program

Just under half of the more than 55,000 Idahoans eligible for a reduction in their property taxes actually apply for the Idaho Property Tax Reduction Program. The Idaho State Tax Commission wants to make more people aware of this property tax credit that’s available to low-income seniors and others who qualify, especially with expanded status qualifications that allow more potential claimants to apply this year.

Simpson Challenges Obama on EPA Cap and Trade Regulations

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson signed an amicus curiae, or “friend of the court” brief in support of 27 states that challenged the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule on existing power plants. The Clean Power Plant rule was recently stayed by the U.S. Supreme Court and is awaiting further consideration by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia.

A Treasure Valley businesswoman who has helped homeless veterans and immigrants with critical housing needs will be presented the Spirit of Idaho Award by Idaho Senator Mike Crapo this Friday.  Joy Schweitzer, the daughter of a World War II veteran, has used her company, Around the Town, to find more than three-dozen homeless vets a place to live.  Crapo created the award to recognize Idahoans who go beyond the norm to help others.

Simpson Supports Congressional Review of EPA Water Grab

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson joined 253 Members of Congress in passing S.J.Res. 22, a resolution intended to stop the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from implementing the Obama Administration’s controversial Clean Water Rule. The rule, which was implemented in June 2015 in spite of widespread opposition among the public and in Congress, broadly expands the agencies’ jurisdiction under the Clean Water Act. S.J.Res. 22 would use the Congressional Review Act to prevent the rule from being enacted and bring the agencies’ actions back in line with congressional intent.
