Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge Campaign Launches to Help Idaho Communities Prevent Homelessness this Winter

BOISE, ID – November 14, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Many are at risk of being left out in the cold this winter. The Home Partnership Foundation is challenging Idahoans to help bring families off the street by donating to the online campaign Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge, at www.aveunesforhope.org. This campaign is the first fundraising effort of this kind launched by the Foundation, which was created by Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA) in 2005 to help people build a strong foundation for their lives through stable, safe and affordable housing.

“Because of the economic downturn, the number of people on the brink of homelessness continues to increase,” said Gerald Hunter, IHFA president and executive director and Home Partnership Foundation president. “The Foundation’s work in preventing homelessness is critical to the state, and funds raised through this campaign will help those in need by supporting organizations working with the homeless in Idaho. We are uniting efforts around this cause to raise funds to help Idahoans meet their most basic housing needs. If you care about homelessness prevention in your area, this is a great opportunity to help.”

The Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge will run from Nov. 14 through Dec. 31. The challenge allows donors to select their favorite participating nonprofit in Idaho to give to. By doing so, donors will increase the chance for their selected nonprofit to earn a portion of $27,000 in challenge grants being offered. As a result, a donor’s $25 donation could result in an additional $5,000 awarded to their selected nonprofit.

The Home Partnership Foundation will award 21 challenge grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to nonprofit participants receiving the largest number of donations. In addition, two leadership grants from the KeyBank Foundation will be awarded to the organizations that receive the most donations of $100 or more.

As part of the challenge, nonprofit participants will seek donations from their local communities and will use online tools and social media to educate the public about their mission and work. Participants (both donors and nonprofits) can track their positions online and compare their fundraising efforts to other organizations.

The Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge expects to raise over $50,000 to help prevent homelessness in Idaho, including donations and challenge grants. Give today to service providers in your area by logging onto www.avenuesforhope.org. Together, we can bring families off the street in our communities.
