Idaho Homeless will Have Access to More Housing Opportunities

IHFA was awarded two of the three state-wide grants presented by HUD in Idaho
BOISE, ID – June 13, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA) received two new grants from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development to support homeless projects in eight different counties. The two grants, valued at $223,564, will invest funding in local projects that will provide critically needed housing and support services to homeless individuals and families.
IHFA will distribute the grants to two organizations. WICAP Permanent Housing will receive $193,120 to open a total of nine housing units in Payette, Council, Idaho City, Emmett, McCall, Weiser, and Nampa. The Oneida Crisis Center Permanent Housing will receive$30,444 to serve three families in Oneida County.
The new grants are in addition to $2,622,666 awarded in January of this year to renew funding for 30 existing homeless housing projects in Idaho. The new grants are under HUD’s Supportive Housing Program (SHP), which offers housing and supportive services to allow homeless persons to live as independently as possible.
“The two organizations we will be working with are well-established in their communities,” said Julie Williams, IHFA executive vice president. “While neither of them have received SHP funds in the past, both organizations have worked with HUD before and have expertise in managing programs to help homeless people.”
All homeless families or individuals served through these grants will qualify for permanent housing assistance.
“WICAP and the Oneida Crisis Center Permanent Housing will provide a much needed service in their communities, since there was a lack of permanent housing options for the homeless in those areas,” said Williams.
